Character Education

Core Essential Values Program

The Lower Campus implements the Core Essential Values curriculum to teach students about character, thereby creating a culture of respect and smart decision-making. This program provides a common language of a value and its simple definition. A value is an inward attitude that produces an outward behavior.

Sierra Canyon School and Core Essentials focus on The Three Big essential ideas in which our monthly values reinforce:
  1. treat others right
  2. make smart decisions
  3. maximize your potential
The Core Essentials program combines the forces of a value and its definition and pairs it with a framework of easily-to-implement tools. Using values that the School and parents can agree on, Sierra Canyon rotates 30 value words and definitions over a three-year span.

Each month, students learn a different value and its definition. The values are reinforced both in school and at home through family take-home sheets.

Sierra Canyon supports the notion that values are crucial to creating a culture of learning in schools, and Core Essentials provide a framework to reinforce these essential character traits. For more information, please visit the Core Essentials website.
