Sierra Canyon’s College Counseling and Alumni Departments recently hosted Alumni Day, welcoming students in Grades 10–12 for a thoughtful conversation with recent graduates.
This year’s panel featured alumni representing a wide range of universities and fields, including arts, media and communications, social sciences, and physical sciences. Panelists included Shane L. ’25 (Chapman University), Becky L. ’25 (New York University), Ava N. ’25 (Howard University), Liv M. ’23 (Columbia University), and Wesley I. ’23 (University of California, Berkeley), highlighting the variety of academic pathways available to Sierra Canyon students.
These Trailblazers provided firsthand perspectives on adapting to new learning environments, engaging in coursework aligned with their interests, and balancing academics with athletics and other extracurricular activities. By sharing their experiences, they provided students with a realistic view of the demands and opportunities of college life. A consistent takeaway from the discussion was the importance of passion—students are more likely to find success when they pursue what genuinely interests them.
The Alumni Day event complements Sierra Canyon’s College Counseling program, which begins in 10th Grade and guides students in thoughtful course selection, self-reflection, and long-term planning. Hearing directly from alumni at various stages of their post–Sierra Canyon journeys provides students with a valuable perspective as they consider their own next steps.
Beyond this annual event, the School fosters meaningful connections among current students and alumni, as well as among alumni themselves, strengthening a supportive network that encourages academic and career exploration. These relationships underscore the strength of the Sierra Canyon community and its enduring commitment to supporting students well beyond graduation.
Through events like Alumni Day, Sierra Canyon continues to bridge generations of Trailblazers, creating meaningful opportunities for mentorship, reflection, and connection. These conversations not only inform students’ next steps but also reinforce the lifelong value of belonging to the Sierra Canyon community.
