
November was a milestone month for the Upper School Math Team, which traveled to Northern California and New Jersey for two of the nation’s prestigious math competitions.
Princeton University Mathematics Competition
As the only California school to participate, Sierra Canyon earned 1st place in its division’s Power Round at the 20th annual Princeton University Mathematics Competition. The team’s submission outperformed others in their division and surpassed several higher-ranking teams. In the on-site portion, the Trailblazers placed 12th out of 40 teams in the overall division standings. Coach Chris Tillman remarked, “This was a heavily time-intensive, well-coordinated effort. Our team’s grit, focus, and teamwork made the difference.”
Sierra Canyon also celebrated individual honors across several competition rounds. Atticus M. placed 4th in Geometry and advanced to the Individual Final, ultimately earning 30th out of 305 students. Thomas M., James B., and Nikhil M. tied for 20th in Geometry. Thomas L. finished 37th in Number Theory, and Owen L. earned 53rd in Algebra, one of the competition’s most challenging rounds.

Berkeley Math Tournament
Sierra Canyon’s Upper School Math Team showcased their skills at the Berkeley Math Tournament, which drew over 1,400 students. Regional all-stars and state-level teams gathered for individual and team-based competitions. During collaborative challenges, the team excelled, placing 49th out of 270 teams in the Guts Round and earning notable results in the proof round.
