Sierra Canyon's Lower Campus marked a major academic milestone this week as Pre-Kindergarten through 1st Grade students celebrated the 100th day of school.

Pre-Kindergarten students embraced the celebration in memorable fashion, arriving to school dressed as 100-year-olds, complete with gray hair, glasses, and canes. Beyond the playful attire, the day focused on building foundational number sense. Students counted out sets of ten using snack items and classroom objects to strengthen their understanding of place value. They also constructed free-standing structures using 100 linking cubes and created chains that gave the number 100 a tangible, concrete form at this stage of development.

Kindergarten welcomed a beloved visitor for the occasion: Zero the Hero, who arrived to read aloud 100th Day Worries by Margery Cuyler before they transformed their classroom into a student-curated museum. Each student brought in a collection of exactly 100 items from home—gold coins, sports cards, plastic gems, stickers, and more—carefully arranged and displayed for their 3rd Grade Cross-Age buddies to tour.

In 1st Grade, students channeled the day's energy into an impressive range of number-centered challenges. They strung 100-piece Fruit Loop necklaces, worked through a 100-word word search, and rolled dice in a race-to-100 game that put addition skills to the test. Each student also reflected on what they would do if given $100 to donate, an exercise that connected mathematical thinking to character and community.

The 100th day of school is more than a countdown; it is a celebration of growth. At Sierra Canyon, even the most playful milestones are intentionally designed to reinforce foundational skills while nurturing joy in learning.
