Sierra Canyon School recently hosted its annual Lower School Spelling Bee, a cherished tradition that celebrates academic growth and excellence among 5th and 6th Grade students.
The event took place in the Kardashian Jenner Pavilion and featured 10 finalists who previously advanced through classroom rounds to earn a place in the competition. Moderated by 6th Grade Latin teacher Mrs. Anderson and 6th Grade English teacher Ms. Tokatyan, the Spelling Bee unfolded round by round as students navigated increasingly challenging words.
Contestant families and students in Grades 3–6 filled the audience, creating an atmosphere of excitement and encouragement. The suspense grew with each round as finalists stepped forward to spell, letter by letter, and the room reacted to every correct word and near miss.
After several rounds, the Spelling Bee concluded with Leks B. ‘33 securing first place by correctly spelling precipice. Leks will represent Sierra Canyon in the Scripps online assessment, with the opportunity to advance to the Los Angeles County Regional Spelling Bee.
We applaud all of this year’s finalists for their effort and achievement:
Harrison V. ‘32, Ranveer S. ‘32, Nate T. ‘32, Dylan Z. ‘32, Win J. ‘32, Jagger M. ‘33, Mia H. ‘33, Cameron P. ‘33, Leks B. ‘33, and Kiran D. ‘33.
At Sierra Canyon, excellence is reflected in experiences like the Lower School Spelling Bee, where achievement is defined not solely by outcomes but by preparation, perseverance, and the confidence gained through rising to a challenge. Within this environment, students are supported as individuals, encouraged to pursue their personal best, and recognized for their growth by the broader school community.
