Sierra Canyon’s annual Upper School Shakespeare Competition once again showcased students’ dedication to performance and classical theater.

Students presented a range of Shakespearean monologues drawn from works including HamletMacbethRomeo and JulietOthelloAs You Like It, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Each performance reflected thoughtful interpretation, a strong command of language, and nuanced character development, bringing centuries-old texts to life through focused preparation and confident stage presence.

Congratulations to all students who participated in this year’s competition: Brooklyn S. ’28, Eric L. ’28, Tiger C. ’29, Daniel S. ’29, Justin F. ’29, Sarah S. ’27, Savanna C. ’27, Zoe D. ’26, Lily D. ’27, and Margaret D. ’27. Representing Ms. Lichtman’s Acting/Scene Study I and II classes and Mr. Armstrong’s Honors Theatre Conservatory, students demonstrated the depth and continuity of Sierra Canyon’s Theater Program. The variety of selections reflected students’ engagement with Shakespeare’s work and their growing confidence as performers. Judges Ms. Shively, Mr. Sampson, and Professor Rick Parks recognized students’ preparation, interpretation, and stage presence.

The competition is affiliated with the English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition, a longstanding program that promotes the study and performance of Shakespeare among high school students. As the first-place winner, Margaret D. ’27 will represent Sierra Canyon at the Los Angeles regional round, with the opportunity to advance to the national competition in New York.

Sierra Canyon encourages students to explore their interests, challenge themselves, and grow into lifelong learners. Experiences like the Upper School Shakespeare Competition reflect the School’s commitment to rigorous academics and creative expression working together to prepare students for success.
