Sierra Canyon’s Upper Campus Wellness Ambassadors joined over 800 students at UCLA on Sunday, March 8, for the 3rd Annual Gen Z Wellness Summit, a student-led event centered on mental health, connection, and growth.
Three Sierra Canyon students—Emma B. ’26, Leah W. ’27, and Kate M. ’28—serve on the UCLA Teen Advisory Council and played an active role in organizing the summit, helping to shape the experience. Bringing together students, wellness advocates, and mental health professionals, the summit fostered meaningful conversations about the realities young people face today, including navigating social media, managing stress, and building healthy relationships.
Through interactive workshops and discussions, students learned practical strategies, including mindfulness exercises and peer support approaches, to better understand themselves, deepen connections with others, and navigate challenges with intention. A session on mental health podcasts stood out to Daliah J. ’28, introducing her to student-led platforms and new ways to engage with conversations around well-being.
A highlight was the “fishbowl” discussion, which encouraged students to share their experiences and discover common ground. After hearing Dr. Ira Bedzow speak, students reflected on their personal values and how to grow with intention. Psychologist Scott Barry Kaufman’s message encouraged students to identify and embrace their strengths in support of continued growth. “It was a nice moment to slow down and feel more connected,” said Eleanor Y. ’27.
The summit reflected the role of experiential learning at Sierra Canyon, giving students the opportunity to engage and bring new perspectives back to campus, where they will continue to shape conversations, relationships, and a culture of wellness.
