The Lower School honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s life and legacy through meaningful projects and a powerful presentation.

Throughout the week, each grade level reflected on Dr. King's ideals through age-appropriate activities. Pre-Kindergarten students created colorful crafts, including peace signs and doves, inspired by stories about Dr. King's life. Kindergarten students participated in a meaningful activity by creating their own Peace Punch, mixing juices with heartfelt "wishes for the world," including peace, kindness, love, and equality. They also joined in a vibrant Peace Parade, crafting posters of hope and unity, which they proudly carried as they paraded through campus, sharing their inspiring messages with the Lower School community.

Inspired by Martin's Big Words and My Daddy, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., 1st Grade students shared their hopes for the future by writing dreams for the world, which are now proudly displayed in their classroom windows. In 5th Grade classrooms, students delved into Dr. King's leadership by watching his iconic I Have a Dream speech. Through thoughtful conversations, they reflected on his impact on history and how leadership continues to shape today's world. To honor Dr. King's vision, each student contributed to a collaborative collage, coloring individual pieces to form a powerful, unified artwork.

The celebration concluded with a meaningful assembly in The Barn, where the entire Lower Campus came together to view a powerful film created by the Class of 2031. This tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. resulted from the 6th Grade students' dedicated efforts under the guidance of Ms. Leah Waxman. In their History classes, students diligently researched Dr. King's life and contributions, curated facts and images from the Civil Rights Movement, created impactful artwork, recorded narration, and crafted the narrative for the film. Their exceptional work brought Dr. King’s legacy to life for the entire community. Click here to watch the tribute video in its entirety.

At Sierra Canyon, we inspire our students to actively engage in learning, explore history, and embrace their role as future leaders. We are dedicated to empowering the next generation to drive progress, foster growth, and create meaningful change.
