The South Asian Student Association led the thoughtful revival of Bollywood Night, re-establishing it as a vibrant and meaningful Sierra Canyon tradition.

Mallika V. '25, Sophia T. '26, and Krish C. '26, leaders of the South Asian Student Association (SASA) who fondly remember this meaningful celebration from their Lower School years, set out to bring Bollywood Night back to the Sierra Canyon experience. Rooted in the cultural spirit of One Sierra, their goal was to honor tradition through food, dance, and shared community connection.

This year's Bollywood Night featured a resounding lineup of South Asian dance, film, and fashion. The Lower Campus Jr. Company dancers performed a piece choreographed by Sophia, followed by Upper School students showcasing a range of traditional and contemporary South Asian dance styles. Ria L. '25 and Sophia performed a duet, leading into Mallika's Bharata Natyam solo—a classical dance from Tamil Nadu renowned for its expressive storytelling and intricate footwork. To conclude the dance portion, Sahil B. '25 delivered a high-energy Bollywood number to round out the dance portion of the evening.

The program included Immortal Stories, a short film by Sahil, created during his recent trip to India. Through a reflective voiceover, Sahil shared a personal exploration of his cultural heritage and identity. The presentation concluded with a fashion show spotlighting the elegant attire modeled by students, parents, and faculty.

Additionally, guests enjoyed a catered dinner of authentic Indian cuisine, including a live dosa table and traditional desserts. The SASA hosted a henna tattoo artist, while Upper Campus student volunteers led various cultural activities, including carrom, chess, bracelet making, a bindi station, crafts, and a photo booth. The night wrapped up with joyful dancing to both traditional and contemporary music.

Through their dedication and hard work, these student leaders have ensured that Bollywood Night continues, securing its place as a cherished Sierra Canyon tradition.

Thanks to the leadership and vision of Anita Ludlam (Thomas '28 and Louis '34), this event transformed from a modest gathering to a joyful celebration, and to the South Asian Student Association, along with all the student and faculty contributors who brought it to life.
