Students in 2nd Grade celebrated the culmination of their Oceanography unit with an immersive Ocean Day.

In the morning, families were invited into the classrooms for an open house-style event where our Trailblazers proudly presented their Ocean Animal Reports and showcased their dioramas. Each student conducted research and composed a detailed report at school detailing their ocean animal's appearance, diet, adaptations, and habitat, then brought that learning to life through creative dioramas made at home. Using materials ranging from pipe cleaners and clay to real sea stars and sand, the students added personal touches that made every project unique.

Students participated in hands-on, ocean-themed activities throughout the day that enriched their classroom learning. A mobile touch tank experience offered the opportunity to observe and gently interact with marine animals, including a chocolate chip sea star, a Cortez stingray, a green brittle sea star, and a bamboo cat shark. Additional programming led by the Aquarium of the Pacific, featuring live webcams and interactive lessons, provided an up-close look at sharks, penguins, jellyfish, and more. The day concluded with ocean-inspired art projects that blended creativity with scientific discovery.

Ocean Day exemplifies Sierra Canyon's commitment to experiential learning—where curiosity is sparked, creativity is nurtured, and students are empowered to engage deeply with the world around them.
