When Jordan S. '26 took on the role of Varsity Cheer captain this year, she set out to create a program that would strengthen her team from the inside out.

This summer, Jordan launched Boost and Bond, a six-week mentorship and wellness initiative created after two years of research, planning, and guidance from her mentor at UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services. The program uses activities like yoga, meditation, mindset training, and goal-setting to build confidence, resilience, and connection. Implemented with Sierra Canyon's Varsity Cheer team, the program ensured that every athlete entered the season supported and prepared.

Jordan shaped the program by drawing on years of experience working with children, volunteering, and even earning her certification as a life coach. "I like the idea of how thoughts guide your actions. The way that we perceive a situation will be the way we respond to it," she explained. "If you enter the field thinking, 'I got this,' then confident actions will follow, and it will be a more positive experience."

The results have been transformative. New members of the Cheer team immediately felt welcomed, returning athletes had the chance to lead, and the team built a foundation of trust and support. Boost and Bond is already expanding to other areas of campus life, from Lower School Dance Company to the Upper Campus Yearbook Staff, ensuring its impact reaches beyond cheer. Jordan credits Sierra Canyon for helping her bring her vision to life: "Being a Lifer at Sierra Canyon has given me the confidence and leadership skills to start a program like this and seek out a mentor at a top University. I received encouragement from my counselors, teachers, the athletic department, and my cheer coaches—really everyone in a leadership position at Sierra Canyon."

Jordan's story exemplifies how Sierra Canyon empowers students to lead, innovate, and develop programs with a lasting impact. The school nurtures leadership and entrepreneurial spirit at every step, providing community, encouragement, and resources necessary to turn bold ideas into reality. As she prepares to graduate, Jordan plans to major in psychology in college, building on the passion she has already pursued throughout her time in the Upper School.
