Trailblazer News

This summer, Upper School students Jayden S. '27 and Damon T. '26 took their passion for music beyond the classroom at GRAMMY Camp Los Angeles.

Through hands-on sessions, industry Q&As, and workshops with GRAMMY winners and nominees, Jayden and Damon explored what it takes to thrive in today's music industry. Their experiences prove that Trailblazers go further—pursuing opportunities that challenge them, fuel their creativity, and prepare them for future success.

Jayden participated in the Music Business Track, while Damon explored the Electronic Music Production Track, diving into immersive, real-world experiences extending far beyond traditional music lessons. During the week, they attended a "Lunch and Learn" Q&A with industry professional Jared Oluwa and participated in artist sessions featuring Renee Rapp, Idia Shawn, and DMile.

Both students said their Sierra Canyon experiences prepared them for camp. Damon shared, "I took Music Theory in my sophomore year, which gave me a strong foundation… it helped me speed through the early trial and error of learning to write music. Jayden added, "Through classes and collaboration with peers, I developed a solid foundation in music and learned how to work well with others."

Chris Sampson, Sierra Canyon's Director of Performing Arts, emphasized the value of the program:

"GRAMMY Camp is unique because it provides a hands-on experience of what it's like to work in the music industry. Students collaborate with songwriters, musicians, producers, vocalists, and music business students in a professional studio environment, just like they would in the profession."

We proudly celebrate Jayden and Damon for representing the School at GRAMMY Camp—proof that Sierra Canyon turns passion into possibility.
