The Lower School Science Fair was a dynamic showcase of student-driven learning, with students in Grades 3–5 presenting original STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) projects.
The morning began with a parent breakfast, followed by families touring the Pavilion and engaging with student projects that reflected months of preparation, thoughtful exploration, and curiosity. The day prior, Lower School students had the opportunity to visit the Fair, giving them an early look at the projects while providing student presenters with a chance to practice and refine their work.
In 3rd Grade’s To Earth and Beyond, students explored Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune through research-driven studies, examining each planet’s physical characteristics, place in the solar system, and the stories behind major space missions. They translated their learning into structured research reports before bringing their discoveries to life through detailed planet models that blended scientific understanding with creativity.
Students in 4th Grade embraced Ants, Plants, and Magnets, Oh My, stepping into the role of scientists as they applied the scientific method to questions of their own design. Their investigations included observing how environmental factors influence Red Harvester Ant behavior, testing germination conditions using different liquids, and using magnets to detect iron content in cereals. Students presented their findings on thoughtfully designed boards, featuring data tables, graphs, and conclusions that highlighted both the process and the discovery.
In Every Day to the Extraordinary, 5th Grade students transformed everyday questions into full scientific investigations, designing experiments that explored topics such as which types of slime stretch the farthest, how bacteria levels vary on different sports balls, and how effectively common cleaning products break down food stains. Students analyzed their results and presented their findings digitally, communicating their conclusions with clarity while collaborating like true research teams.
Together, the projects reflected a clear progression of learning across the Lower School, as students moved from research and observation to experimentation and analysis. For younger Trailblazers in Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd Grade, the Science Fair offered a meaningful look at how curiosity develops into confident, independent thinking.
