Sierra Canyon Lower School Choir and Strings students took the stage at Universal Studios CityWalk on Friday, March 13, bringing together more than 80 performers from Pre-Kindergarten through 7th Grade for a vibrant showcase as part of the venue’s STARS program.

The performance opened with the School’s youngest string players, who set the tone with a confident selection, including “Wintertime in Russia,” “Athabasca Monkey,” “Old Brass Wagon,” and “Boil Them Cabbage Down.” Under Dr. Deutsch’s direction, their playing reflected the strong technical foundation and growing musicality being developed in the earliest years of instruction.

The Lower School Choir, led by Leslie Gonzalez, followed with an expressive set that spanned both Broadway and global influences, including “When I Grow Up” from Matilda and “Los Colores de la Vida.” A highlight of the program was a collaborative performance of “Rainbow Connection,” featuring string accompaniment in an arrangement by Finn Dunham, as well as “Inez,” a piece rooted in a traditional Puerto Rican folk melody that brought together instrumentalists and vocalists.

The concert built to a joyful finale as students from across grade levels filled the stage, culminating in a full-ensemble performance of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” that united the choir and strings in a shared musical moment.

Performing at a high-energy venue like CityWalk offered students the opportunity to share their work with a broader audience—an experience that not only celebrated their growth but also reflected the confidence, collaboration, and artistry nurtured within Sierra Canyon’s Music Program.
