Third-grader Liliana S. '35 has been named the 2026 LA Take Steps Pediatric Honored Hero by the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and will take on a leading role at this year’s Take Steps Walk.

Known to her classmates and teachers as Lily, she was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2024 and has navigated hospital stays, daily treatments, and the ongoing challenges of living with inflammatory bowel disease. Through it all, she has met each moment with a resilience and positivity that have made a lasting impression on those around her. Lily loves animals, tennis, and the musical Wicked, bringing joy and imagination into everything she does.

On May 30, Lily will lead the ribbon-cutting and deliver a speech at the Take Steps Walk—an inspiring opportunity to empower others through her journey. This event raises important funds and awareness, with Lily’s role underlining the reality that no one faces illness alone.

The Lower School will recognize Lily on May 1 at a Community Assembly, where families will also have the opportunity to learn more about the upcoming walk. The Sierra Canyon community is encouraged to support Team Liliana and the Crohn’s Crushers as they walk for cures, for connection, and for every child navigating IBD with courage and grace.

At Sierra Canyon, students are known, supported, and inspired to meet challenges with courage and purpose, and Lily’s story is a powerful reflection of that spirit.
