Sierra Canyon celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival this week, inviting students to learn about the cherished tradition centered on family and appreciation.
Observed on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for families to gather in Chinese culture. Under the full moon, they share mooncakes—round pastries with sweet fillings that symbolize unity and happiness.
Through our ongoing collaboration with parent affinity groups, the Chinese Heritage Parents shared mooncakes and the story of the Mid-Autumn Festival with students on both campuses—an engaging, hands-on moment of learning and community.
Several Upper Campus World Languages classes also joined the celebration. In Chinese I and II, faculty member Veronica Li led students in exchanging "Happy Mid-Autumn" in Mandarin, screened a brief video on mooncake preparation (flour, eggs, sugar, cornstarch), served mooncakes and boba tea, and offered a concise overview of China's provinces and their contributions to cuisine, fine and performing arts, and history.
As a leading educational institution in the region, Sierra Canyon believes the School should reflect the diverse multicultural population of the greater Los Angeles community. This commitment extends to curriculum and programming to foster an inclusive, welcoming culture that celebrates everyone.
