Congratulations to the Sierra Canyon Upper School Math Team on earning 3rd Place at Math Day at the Beach to open their 2025–2026 competition season.
Math Day at the Beach is an annual event that brings together 32 high school teams across Southern California for a full day of challenging problem-solving, collaboration, and spirited competition. Hosted by California State University, Long Beach, the contest features multiple rounds, including an Individual Round of multiple-choice and free-response questions, a Team Round of twelve open-ended problems, and a fast-paced Relay Round that tests accuracy under pressure.
The team, which included captains James B. '26 and Nikhil M. '26 along with Thomas L. '28, Atticus M. '27, Thomas M. '27, and Chris X. '27, excelled across all sections, correctly solving 9 of 12 problems in the Team Round to secure their spot on the podium. "This is very impressive, and I am so proud of the kids! We are off to a great start to the year," shared Math Team Coach Chris Tillman.
This marks the fifth consecutive year that Sierra Canyon has distinguished itself at Math Day at the Beach, highlighting the team's sustained excellence and growing reputation for high-level performance.
Sierra Canyon's Upper School Math Team ranks among the nation's elite, consistently earning recognition as one of the top programs in the country. In November, the Trailblazers will showcase their talents on the national stage at the prestigious Berkeley Math Tournament and the Princeton University Mathematics Competition (PUMaC).
