The Class of 2031 marked their promotion to Middle School on Tuesday, June 3, with a heartfelt celebration that included the traditional 6th Grade Candle Lighting.

Head of School Jim Skrumbis opened the ceremony with a warm welcome to families and friends, followed by a meaningful moment led by Sierra Canyon Co-Founder Howard Wang, who then lit the first candle—a symbolic gesture that connects the School's enduring vision with the bright future of its students. It was a fitting moment for this year's 6th Grade class, known as 'Timeless,' as they reflected on their Lower School journey and now confidently step into their next chapter.

Each student presented an original I Am poem, thoughtfully written in the weeks leading up to the ceremony. These personal reflections were shared alongside a slideshow that paired early childhood photos with current portraits—a powerful reminder of how much they have grown.

Lower School Director Kristine Theodoratos and Middle School Director Lindsay Koss offered insightful remarks, celebrating the unique spirit and strengths of the Class of 2031. Mrs. Theodoratos concluded with a final message to the students: "It's in the experience, it's in the work, it's in the struggle that we compose the best versions of ourselves." The evening closed with remarks from Lower School Dean of Students Adam Horwitz, who acknowledged the significance of this milestone and encouraged the students as they prepare for the opportunities ahead.

Congratulations to the Class of 2031. We cannot wait to see what lies ahead as you carry forward all you have gained from your Lower School experience.
