Upper Campus students brought Día de los Muertos to life with a collaborative Ofrenda that transforms remembrance into art.

In their Visual Arts classes, students translated tradition into studio practice. 3D Art students crafted vibrant alebrijes from papier-mâché, finishing each form with intricate, hand-painted patterns rooted in Mexican folk traditions. Drawing and Painting I students designed and painted ceramic calaveras to commemorate family members, friends, and beloved pets, while Drawing and Painting II students produced detailed, anatomically accurate graphite skeleton studies from observation. Together, they then curated the installation in Founders Union, thoughtfully arranging the works into a cohesive altar that welcomes quiet reflection and shared memory.

The Visual Arts Department invites all members of the Sierra Canyon community to contribute to the Ofrenda by bringing photos, candles, marigolds, or other meaningful items throughout the month. The installation will remain on display in Founders Union through the end of November.

Sierra Canyon is a place where students, families, faculty, and staff come together with a shared purpose—to inspire, support, and celebrate with one another. Whether through collaborative projects or everyday moments, that collective spirit defines the Sierra Canyon experience.
