Upper School student Sarah S. ’27 has been named KNX News 97.1 FM’s Hero of the Week, earning a featured segment on the Los Angeles news station in recognition of her dedication to community service.

As Vice President of Shoes For Souls, a nonprofit that collects and donates footwear to people experiencing homelessness and financial hardship, Sarah has made the LA Mission a cornerstone of her service work. She has organized multiple collection drives in support of the Mission, building meaningful relationships with the community and strengthening her commitment with each visit.

KNX anchor and Hero of the Week host Heather Jordan praised Sarah’s impact, telling her, “You are leading the way to a better community for all of us.”

Reflecting on her time serving at the LA Mission, Sarah shared that the experience has given her a powerful perspective on the impact of small acts of kindness. “It is an amazing feeling to know that I can brighten someone’s day just by giving them a simple pair of shoes,” she said. “The smiles on the kids’ faces when I hand them a brand-new pair are honestly unmatched.”

Guided by the School's core values of excellence, integrity, community, independence, and perspective, Sarah exemplifies the spirit of the Sierra Canyon experience. Through meaningful action, she is making a difference in the Los Angeles community while demonstrating the character and purpose that define a Portrait of a Graduate.
